Procedure - How to build the Sukhoi Su-27 in SimplePlanes

Hello guys, it's me again, now I'm going to show you a procedural video I made about building a plane in the game SimplePlanes, it's an alright video for those new to the game or are looking to improve in general.

The video can be found here

And here's the full script of the video :

Assalamu'alaikum wr wb, I'm Farhan Rachmat Dhiaputra from XI MIPA 3, today I'm going to do a procedure, or a guide as you can call it too, on building the Su-27 Flanker fighter jet in the game SimplePlanes using 1:1,428 scale.

This is going to be done in the game SimplePlanes obviously, so you need the game installed, you'd also need the plane's schematics, and knowing the moving parts of the plane, such as it's ailerons, flaps, stabilitator, rudder, leading edge flaps, and landing gear, you might also want to know about the plane's ability, such as the Pugachev's Cobra and the Kulbit, this is though optional as the plane is in and of itself is very maneuverable already.

Now onto the first step.

1. Get the plane's actual length, and divide it by 1.42, this gives the plane the scale that we need.

2. After that, go into the game and into the editor, and proceed to create a thin rod with the length of the designated scale, in this case 15.3 meters.

3. And then, make another rod and put it in the middle of the main rod, this would be our "crutch" for the middle section of the plane, and color the rod with a dark color so we can see it overlayed on the schematics later on.

4. Next, put a fuselage block into the top of the road like this, now insert the schematic into the editor using the blueprint feature, and nudge the rod so that it matches the length of the plane, now I'm going to build this in several sections, starting with the main body, the aerodynamic body, the engine body, the landing gear, then the wings, also remember the H and W values as it is going to be used on the blueprints on the sides and front.

5. Now building the plane, edit the shape of the fuselage block that we've just put into the shape of the main body, and create sections in front and back of the plane following the main body's shape.

6. And then go to the side view on the blueprint, put the schematics with the aforementioned H and W values, and shape the main body to the shape on the schematic.

7. And now the main body should be complete, next is building the aerodynamic body, put a fuselage facing perpendicular to the body with a thickness of 0.25 on the side of the main body, and nudge it so that it is in the same place as on the schematics, and then simply follow the shape of the schematics with the fuselage block, also note that the Su-27 has this "curved" shape here, so it's best to recreate that as well to give the plane a more accurate shape, also pardon the simplistic way of me doing this as I'm not used to this yet.

8. After it's done, copy the part to the other side, and now it's time to make the cockpit, start with placing a fuselage block (or glass if preferred) in the middle of the cockpit, and basically just follow the shape again, and then make the IRST or Infrared Search and Track replica on the front middle of the cockpit.

9. And now it's time to make the engine body, it starts with the same way as before with placing this fuselage here and nudging it to the right position and shape, although now I'd do away with the stock engines and make a custom engine, so after this fuselage block put this hollow fuselage here, and then put another hollow fuselage like this, add a backplate and put VTOL inlets all around it with it's rotator disabled using XML, and copy that to the other side.

10. Next finish the whole engine body following the shape and put this engine here and copy it to the other side, and then using XML on one of the engine set the max thrust to 2 or 3, and disable zeroOnActivate so the afterburner had a seamless transition, and set the activation group to 7 or whatever you choose, and using nudge them inside the fuselage.

11. Now making the landing gear, for the front build a custom landing gear with the same style as the one on the schematics, place a hinge rotator in the place where the landing crutch should be, make a small rod and place it on the rotator, and then nudge the rotator until it is completely inside the fuselage, then make an even smaller rod to and place a wheel in, and then size it according to the schematics, in the end it should look like this.

As for the rear landing gear, put the hinge rotator according to the schematics, go to XML and put this command right here, this'll make the rotator much thinner, and then angle it 15 degrees to the middle of the plane, and basically follow the same steps as the front one, although before putting the smaller rod put a scaled down spinning rotator, set it at around 80° turn, and place it between the small rod and the smaller rod, this would replicate a very similar movement created by the actual landing gear of the Su-27, although do note that you need to make adjustments to the fuselage so that it can fit the entire landing gear.

12. Now, time to test the afterburner and the landing gear, load the map and spawn in USS Beasts' catapult, and try lowering and retracting the landing gear and also test the afterburner.

13. And that's all of the body complete, now you may make adjustments here and there as you'd like, as I did with the afterburner, and now it's time for the lifting surfaces and control surfaces.

14. though before that, change the control input of the landing gear to the landing gear button, so that it is now a functioning custom landing gear, and also remember to change the minimal input to zero, so that when it extends it doesn't extend all the way back.

15. Now the wings, start with the main wings, place two normal wings here, the front facing backwards, and then shape it accordingly, the front is for the leading edge flaps and the rear was for the ailerons and the flaps, then nudge it inside the fuselage for a seamless shape, add another control surface on the rear wing and set the input to pitch, and then shape the two control surfaces as the schematics, after that, go to XML and change the pitch input of the control surface with Trim, to have working flaps, now for the front, add a control surface and shape it, and then go to XML to set the input to Trim, now modify the two wings so that they are connected, and then copy the two to the other side and invert the movement for the flaps.

16. Now for the rudder, it's pretty simple, just place a horizontal stabilizer on it's position, and shape it like so, and then place this wing panel on top to give it the shape of the rudder.

17. And finally the stabilitator, place a rotator in place and connect a wing panel onto it, then nudge it so that there's no spaces between and temporarily disable to connection between the panel and the rotator so that the wing can be shaped, shape the wing like this and connect it back to the rotator, and then set up the rotator so that it controls pitch, and then copy the part to the other side, then add another rotator, place it slightly behind the pitch rotator, and then connect that to the wing panel, configure this one into roll control and then copy it to the other side, and the final rotator for the Cobra and Kulbit maneuver, just like the previous, place it behind the roll rotator using Overload and connect it to the wing panel, and then configure this one to have an extreme deflection angle, and then finally copy it to the other side.

18. Now the plane is mostly complete, now tests it's function aboard the carrier, if you found something wrong like I did here with the stabilitator, head back to the editor to fix it out and test it until you got it right.

19. And now it's time for a test flight, insert a cockpit to the custom cockpit like I already did here, and set that to the primary cockpit, remove the crutch holding the plane and it's foundation, and now your plane is ready to fly.

20. Now examine the parameters of the plane, such as it's maneuverability, speed, minimum speed, stall speed, and anything else you might need to examine, if you find something underperforming then tweak the plane accordingly, example if the engine is too weak raise the power multiplier, if the deflection angle of the stabilitator is too small increase the rotator turning space, and so and so on, also if your plane suddenly spins in the air vertically then it your center of lift is in front of the center of mass, move the CoM to the front of the CoL by adding dead weight on the front of the plane.

21. After you've tweaked the plane to your desire, it's time to add it's combat capabilities, starting with the gun, now just place this structural plate right here and follow the place on the schematics, and then add the gun, now this gun has been modified to had the same capability as the real one, to do this you need to know the rounds per second of the gun and it's muzzle velocity, you can also modify the amount of rounds inside the gun but guns in SP are infinite anyways so I don't think it really matters that much.

22. And next is the pylons, start from the edge by building this extension right here, and then once done put the pylon in albeit at a downscaled height so that it matches with the schematics, and for the other pylons we're gonna use the same tactic and just follow the placement on the picture.

23. Moving on to countermeasures, basically the Flanker had this arrangement of countermeasure dispenser on it's tail boom so we're going to use that as a reference and truly to imitate the shape of the dispenser and it's placement.

And so with that... the plane is ready.

Aaand now the Sukhoi Su-27 is complete, now you may go on to add lights or even custom weaponry, but since those are out of the scope of this video I'm gonna left it here, thank you guys so much for watching, hope this guide can help you build this type of plane and maybe other planes as well, and well, that's all that's left for me to say, have a great day, wassalamuallaikum wr wb.
